Editor’s note: Independent consultant Lucy Werner has managed the conversion to Version 17 of two IMA client systems. Here Lucy and IMA’s Gail Willis share their tips on navigating the v17 Menus.
We are getting rave reviews from those who have updated their systems to Version 17, but we are also aware that all change is disruptive, and this is no exception. The new standard menus are great, but since they are different, you may need help to find things. So, here are some pointers on how to find a function in this new menu.
First, start by considering which of the seven categories, as identified by the menu names in the top section below, best describes the function you are looking for.

For example, if you’re looking for Admission and Discharge, try the first menu, “Client Registration/ Services/Schedule”. If you need the Resource Directory, try “User Utilities”. If you want to write progress notes for outpatient services, try “Electronic Medical Record”. But, if you want to write progress notes for ACT, look at “Integrated Modules”.
As you browse through the Menu Functions, you may see a function with “xx” before and after it. This indicates that this module is not operational on your machine. When you click on such a function, the name of the program and a brief description will appear.
If this sounds like a module that you can use, e-mail HelpDesk@imasys.com to learn more about it. Keep in mind that this function is most likely fully functional under the Subscription License described on page 1.
In addition to the logical and user-friendly menu structure, IMA Version 17 has a powerful new help function. In the upper left corner of your desktop, click on Help and the following context sensitive Options will be presented to you:
- Module Description
- Module User Guide
- Module Administrator Information
- Module Design Specification
- General Help
- About
General Help has both a Search Function and three additional categories of information:
- General topics index
- Specific module help documents
- IMA Forms Catalogue
The Search Function provides access to the whole on-line documentation library. Press the [SEARCH] button at the top of the General Help screen and enter a search term. For example enter “front desk”, and press [SEARCH].
All documents in the online library that contain the words “front desk” will be listed in response. Each listed document may be accessed by clicking on the name or description.
The Index is a handy alphabetic list of all available documents, and the Forms Catalogue contains a full library of clinical forms organized by application.
